Spring internship with How On Earth
I’m doing a spring internship with How On Earth, the science show from KGNU community radio in Boulder, Colo. KGNU is listener-supported and largely run by volunteers; the folks that work on How On Earth include established, working journalists with an interest in science as well as established, working scientists with an interest in journalism.
The internship will give me experience with every aspect of radio production — writing headlines, hosting live shows, recording interviews and producing news features, doing live interviews, even engineering the show — which is great, because the CU school of journalism (shamefully!) doesn’t offer classes in radio production. So far I’ve co-hosted three shows, produced one recorded interview, and written several headlines summarizing recent science news. I’ve also been improving the How On Earth web presence by building the show’s new website, and I’ll be creating Facebook and Twitter accounts as well.
You can listen to the show live in the Boulder-Denver area every Tuesday morning at 8:35 am on KGNU — 88.5 FM / 1390 AM — and people everywhere can listen to the live stream from kgnu.org. You can find links to my recent appearances by checking out the weekly episode posts at howonearthradio.org.
